When you receive your new Google Account details, it is vital that you immediately configure your security settings.
Failure to do this will result in your account being locked out and unable to reset your own password.

In a browser log into Google
If this is the 1st time using your account you will be prompted to change the password, change the password.

Once logged into Google, click this link or click your name tile and then "manage your google account" then "Security and Sign In"
Click "2-Step Verification"




This will take you to the 2-Step Verification page, at a minimum you need Authenticator and Phone Number configured.
Click on Authenticator

 

You will need do download the Authenticator from your phone's app store.
Once installed click "Set up authenticator"



Follow the on-screen instructions.
Add your account by scanning the QR code, enter code shown into the box and click verify.
Once verified you will see this screen, authenticator is working, click the back arrow



Back at the 2-Step Verification page, click Phone Number and then "Add phone number"




Choose your country and add your full telephone number, leave the default text message notification and click "Next" then "Save". Click the back arrow to return to the 2-Step Verification Page



Click "Turn on 2-Step Verification" and "Done". Click the back arrow to return to the Security and sign-in page.







There are two other requirements, these will show under the How you sign into Google. Recovery Phone and Recovery Email, both need completing.


Recovery Phone:


Click Add recovery phone, enter your number as before, click next and save, click the back arrow







Recovery Email:
Click Add recovery email, enter your private email address, click save, a verification code will be sent to the address, enter the code when received and verify.
Once verified click the back arrow







One final step is to click the Security Recommendations link



Here you will need to confirm your recovery phone number and set-up Passkeys (if your device supports it)
Once complete, log out of Google and back in again to test your settings.
